How to Train a Pitbull Puppy - 3 Handy Tips

There is 'no one size fits all' approach to how to train a pitbull puppy. In order to succeed, you will need to learn how to read the mood of your dog.
There are periods of the day when your pitbull puppy will be eager to follow your commands and other points when he will be simply not interested. It's never a good idea to force your pitbull to follow your commands especially if he is tired.
It will only end up making him more insecure and fuel his aggression. That said, during the periods when your dog is in the mood to be trained, the following are a few useful tips that will help you achieve the right results.
1. Keep your rewards simple
Dog trainers encourage people to give out treats whenever their dog completes a task. For instance, every time your dog sits when you ask him to, you should hand a treat to him.
It will make him eager to respond to your commands. However, your choice of treats should be simple. If you give your dog a bone when he sits at your first command, he'll spend the next 15 minutes chewing at it which will only distract him from his training.
A more effective method is to feed him tiny bite-sized treats that he can finish within seconds. That way you can keep on repeating the command until he gets to learn how to do it.
2. Never encourage his aggression
Pitbulls are not aggressive towards humans. However, if you train them the wrong way, they can turn out this way.
The best way of increasing your puppy's social relation with people is to take him out more often. The longer your pitbull interacts with other people, the more social he will become.
You should also avoid getting involved in physically aggressive games with him since this will only encourage that side of him.
3. Don't put up with biting
It is very likely that at some stage your pitbull puppies will try to bite you playfully. Don't stand for it. Show your displeasure when this happens by yelping loudly and leaving the puppy alone.
He will sense your mood and learn not to try it again in the future. You should also avoid playing games like tug of war where he is called to use his teeth and assert his dominance.
It might seem like fun, but it is certainly not the proper way on how to train a pitbull puppy.
